Barrel Grills and Cart Grills of the New Generation

Gas grills have multiple varieties but they basically fall into 2 categories: charcoal grills and gas grills. Lately there are also electric indoor grills. Although many people constantly compare the merits of gas grills and charcoal grills, the two remain traditional methods of grilling up to now. However, amongst the two, the most competitive and highly in-demand in the market are charcoal grills.

Charcoal grills come in a range of steel or custom designs. There are 55 gallon oil drums sawed lengthwise to their sides as their grill base and lid, to huge vehicle-sized grills made from brick which weighs almost a ton.

Barrel Grills

Assessing it in its primitive form, barrel grills look like 55 gallon steel barrels sliced in half on a lengthwise manner. Its hinges are attached in order for the top half to form the lid; thus, the bottom half acts as the charcoal chamber. For airflow control, the vents are cut into its top and bottom sections. The lid is attached to the chimney. Along the bottom portion of ½ of the grill, the cooking grids and charcoal grids are installed while its legs are attached to it.

Barrel grills, like kettle grills, are excellent for grilling and barbecuing. When it comes to barbecuing, one end of the barrel has piled-up lit charcoal while the food is placed in the other section of the barrel. Once you close the lid, the heat can be controlled through the vents. Since, barrel grills are an all-time favorite; you will find many basic and fancy designs available commercially.

Here are some of barrel grills sold in the market:

Kingsford 28.5-inch Barrel Grill wit Optional 5pc. Tool Set

This brand of charcoal-fueled barrel grill costs $183.99. Kingsford is one of the most trusted brands when it comes to charcoal-fueled grills. You are assured of quality and satisfaction in terms of your cooking needs.

This barrel grill has more than 830 square inches of pure cooking space. It also features a wooden side and front shelves. It is also portable because of its durable wheels.

The set contains 5 pieces of wooden handles. It also features chrome grill racks, an adjustable charcoal tray, adjustable air dampers, a temperature gauge and a warming rack. The set includes a spatula, fork, grill brush, tongs and a basting brush.

520262 Barrel-Styled Grill

This charcoal-fueled barrel grill costs $145.99. It is created by Landmann USA for household use. Landmann combined the classic design of a barrel grill with fancy sleek interiors. This way, the grill can maintain optimum heat convection as well as circulation, blending perfectly into any type of yard.

This sophisticated-looking barrel grill can provide 339 square inches of pure cooking space, making it perfect for small gatherings or even every day family usage. If you plan to use it on large gatherings, you can keep previously grilled burgers or maintain toasty steak on its 159 square inch warming rack.

Cart Grills

Charcoal-fueled cart grills look similar to typical gas grills. They are generally rectangular in design and they have a cooking grid, hinge grid as well as a charcoal grid. They are mounted onto a cart that has side tables and wheels.

Certain gas grills have their way of adjusting the heat. This is by moving the cooking surface upwards, having the charcoal pan face downwards, through venting or combing all three methods.

Cart grills, although quite expensive, usually feature an ash collection drawer. This ensures that ashes are easily removed wile you are cooking. Since cart grills have a rectangular design, they are also perfect for indirect cooking. With all the features of charcoal-fueled cart grills, they can make the art of charcoal grilling as convenient as that of gas grilling.

A good example of an electric-powered cart grill sold in the market these days is the Meco 9329W Deluxe Electric Cart Grill with Rotisserie (Satin Black). It is perfect for outdoor use but it can be plugged onto any standard household outlet. It features a removable thermostat control equipped with low to high settings, a study cart that has a wooden lower shelf, wooden fold-away side tables and 200 sq. inch of highly usable cooking surface.

You can have it in 3 elemental positions such as vertically for indirect rotisserie cooking. It also has a reflector pan that directs the heat towards the cooking surface. It is priced at $258.57.

The Olympic Medal Winning Dutch Warmblood Horse

The Dutch Warmblood is a breed of horse developed as a competitive and recreational horse for the major international equestrian disciplines of dressage, jumping, three-day eventing and driving for which it has gained world-wide recognition. It is also known as the Royal Dutch Sport Horse or simply Dutch Sport Horse.

Most warmblood breeds are continuing to evolve. In fact, they are not breeds in the sense that Thoroughbreds, Arabians, Morgan Horses and Saddlebreds are breeds. Their studbooks are not closed so that other breeds can be introduced into the gene pool to reap the benefits of hybrid vigor and to speed and improve the evolutionary process of attaining the breeding goal of a particular studbook. The Dutch Warmblood is no exception.

Registered warmblood breeding in the Netherlands has been going on for over 100 years. In 1887, King Willem II recognized the first Dutch studbook organization and in doing so he laid the groundwork for regulated Warmblood breeding. During the 19th century several regional and local studbook organizations bred horses specifically for farming.

In the 1950′s, the Dutch Warmblood Horse evolved from crossing two man-created Dutch breeds – the Gelderlander and the Groningen, and then refining the horse with the Thoroughbred to improve stamina. The Gelderlander evolved on the light sandy soils of central Holland and is a medium-sized horse with a stylish gait and jumping abilities inherited from its many ancestors; the Gelderlander gave the new breed its excellent forequarters. The Groningen evolved on the heavy clay soils of northern Holland into a larger and heavier, draft style horse that was nearly lost in the mid-20th Century due to a significant number of mares being used to create the Dutch Warmblood which left few purebreds. Both the Gelderlander and the Groningen share Friesian, Oldenburger and Holsteiner in their ancestry along with other related warmbloods, such as the Oldenburg and the Hanoverian used to clarify minor conformation details as well as to emphasize a calm temperament. The breeding program that began in the 1960′s gave the world one of the most successful horse breeds ever developed in postwar Europe.

However, there are 3 varieties of Dutch Warmblood Horses. Using the old established bloodlines, the Dutch developed a true riding sport horse or Rijpaard, using Thoroughbred stallions as well as riding-type stallions from France, Holstein, Hanover and elsewhere while taking care to retain the qualities of the old Dutch breeds. Hackney Horses were also introduced to this cross in order to produce a stylish harness horse with a proud, high head carriage and high knee action, known as the Dutch Harness Horse or Tuigpaard with American Saddlebred being added now. Other breeders continue to breed the traditional Gelderlander light draft horse, or Basistype, by crossing with the Groningen to add more mass. As a result, the modern Dutch Warmblood horse is divided into three categories in the KWPN Studbook as sport horse, harness horse and traditional Gelderlander type.

Breeding and selection of the Dutch Warmblood Horse is strictly controlled and monitored by the Koninkijk Warmbloed Paardenstamboek Nederland (KWPN) or Royal Warmblood Horse Studbook of the Netherlands. This registry governs the breeding and the studbook in North America through a branch organization (KWPN-NA) formed in 1983. Keurings, or horse inspections, are held each year in both the Netherlands and in North America and the horses are presented at age three or older. Only after they have proven that they possess the necessary quality and breed standard will they be entered into the Studbook and allowed to be branded as Dutch Warmblood horses. However, branding of horses is illegal according to Dutch law, so today only the oldest Dutch Warmbloods still bear the lion-rampant brand on the left hip. Today’s horses are micro-chipped instead.

But the selection process doesn’t end with that one inspection. Both genders undergo regular re-evaluations and are given classifications according to their contribution to the breed, including their own achievements and the achievements of their offspring. No registry has produced more successful international show jumping horses than the KWPN. With at least 8 Olympic medalists since 2000; 2 in dressage, 6 in show jumping, the Dutch Warmblood Horse ranked first in jumping by the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) in 2007.

Physically, the Dutch Warmblood Horse stands 15.2 hands with no upper height limit, although the average is about 16.2 hands with some reaching 17 hands. A horse that is too tall is impractical for sport and therefore not desirable. The head is refined with a straight profile and the neck is long and arched. The withers are fairly prominent and the girth is deep with plenty of heart room. The forelegs are strong and well-muscled and the hindquarters are powerful. The hock joints are low to the ground and these factors combine to give great power to the Dutch Warmblood. The overall impression should be a horse of balanced proportions. They are easy to handle, easy to ride and intelligent, with a willing and hard-working character.

Most Dutch Warmblood Horses are black, brown, bay, chestnut, or grey. White markings on the face and legs are not uncommon. The gene pool also has several tobiano horses from the approved stallion, Samber, although no tobiano stallion has been approved since. The roan pattern turns up occasionally from the approved stallion, El Rosso.

Dutch Warmblood Horses are high achievers, but good conformation is not to be overshadowed by achievements. In a relatively short time the modern Dutch Warmblood has risen to international competitive importance. Dutch Warmbloods have been exported all over the world and are winners under the flags of many nations in international competitions as well as in the Olympic Games.

Dutch Warmblood foals must have a name no longer than 20 characters or spaces that begins with the designated letter for the year of their birth. The designated letter for 2008 is “D” and may be the same name as a previous horse, although the registration number itself will be unique. However, approved stallions must have a unique name and in some cases must be renamed once approved.

However, there is a downside to the breed. Osteochondrosis (OC) is currently the most prevalent developmental disorder in horses where a disturbance occurs in the process of ossification, resulting in the formation of abnormalities in the bone and cartilage during a foal’s growth. Currently, OC affects approximately 30% of young horses worldwide, mostly in warmblood breeds. Of the 12,000 foals born each year and registered by the Dutch Warmblood studbook KWPN, an average of 3,000 will develop OC during their first year. A complete genetic study to investigate the differences in genetic background between joints and differences between factors influencing the development of OC is underway and will continue for two more years.

The success of the Dutch Warmblood Horse is no accident. The same characteristics and approaches which have made The Netherlands outstanding in agriculture and commerce have been applied to their goal to breed the best sport horse in the world.

Depression On Marketing

INTRODUCTION:

Depression is a phenomenon of decreasing demand for raw materials, products, and services. For example, in the United States a recession is said to exist when the gross national product (GNP) declines for two consecutive quarters, or when the leading economic indicators (LEIs) decline for three straight months, or when the index of the Association of Purchasing Managers dips below 50 points. Whichever the case, recession requires marketing managers to modify their marketing strategy and action in order to stay both profitable and consumer-responsive. This generally means adapting the marketing mix and/or changing the target markets.

DEFINITION:

Recession has been defined in the marketing literature as a “process of decreasing demand for raw materials, products and services, including labor” (Sharma 1978) or as a “state in which the demand for a product is less than its former level” (Kotler 1973).

COMPANIES AFFECTED AND UNAFFECTED:

Recessions are selective. Recessions impact some industries, products and regions of the country hard and bypass others entirely. Among the industries and products most affected are: automobiles, home furnishings, large appliances, travel and airlines, convenience foods, aluminum, steel, petrochemicals and synthetic fibers. Relatively unaffected are: liquor and wine, tobacco, small appliances, packaged goods, computer and service industries.

Companies that are Selling Basic Necessities Survive a Recession.

In particular, companies that manufacture the basic necessities of life are least affected by the recession. People still need to eat, wash their laundry, clean their homes, practice personal hygiene, and feed their pets. Discount giants such as BJs, Costco, and Aldi continue to open their doors week after week as consumers arrive to purchase necessities and simple pleasures. Discount stores such as Wal-Mart, Kmart, Kohls, Target, and discount pet stores continue to sell to loyal customers as well as new ones looking for less expensive goods than they are used to buying. Company health care giants such as Johnson & Johnson continue to see profits despite the economic downturn. Likewise, companies producing articles for daily use such as Procter & Gamble and Kraft Foods also carry on without experiencing too much of a pinch in their sales quotas. Fast food restaurants also continue to hold strong ground against the effects of the recession as more and more people opt for a less expensivemealout.

Companies that Sell Simple Pleasures Survive a Recession

Discretionary types of spending that are the first to be given up include expensive meals or nights out on the town. In turn, the alternatives that people select to replace these activities are going to experience a surge of increased consumerism. So, as more and more people stay home to save on gas  while avoiding big ticket expenses, companies selling computer hardware and peripherals, basic needs, and simple pleasures are holding their own.

Companies selling the simple pleasures in life, also referred to as guilty pleasures or sin stocks, will continue to do well as many consumers attempt to keep their spending habits under control with small indulgences. These simple pleasures include such items as gourmet chocolates, beer, alcohol, cigarettes, DVDs, CDs, and video games.

Since parents aim to keep their children happy, even in times of economic trouble, toys will continue to be another big seller.

HOUSING BUBBLE

UK house prices between 1975 and 2006.

The Economist magazine, writing at the same time, went further, saying “the worldwide rise in house prices is the biggest bubble in history”. Real estate bubbles are followed by a price decrease (also known as a housing price crash) that can result in many owners holding negative equity (a mortgage debt higher than the current value of the property).

ADVERTISING AND THE OPPORTUNITIES

The question of advertising during a recession is one that has been asked many times over many years. Interestingly, the answer still does not seem clear to enough marketers.

The answer to the question is that advertising during a recession provides a unique window of opportunity for investment purposes to:

1) Build equity         2) Solidify your customer base           3) Gain new customers and

4) Make inroads on your competitors who have cut their advertising during the recession period. This window of opportunity is created by the understanding that advertising is an investment, not an expense.

Companies that have taken advantage of advertising during a recession to establish strong market positions while developing brand equity include such diverse company names as Bristol Myers, Campbell Soup, Coca-cola, Gillette, Nabisco, Pillsbury, Procter and Gamble, R.J. Reynolds, Rubbermaid, Levi Strauss, Stroh Brewery, United Airlines and Welsh Foods-among others.

McGraw-Hill Research study of over 600 Businesses found that:

1981-1982 …. Business that maintained or increased their ad spend during this time

* Averaged higher sales growth during the recession and in the following 3 years! By 1985 …. Sales of the businesses that maintained or increased their ad spend during that recession
* Sales had risen 256% over those that had cut back on advertising
Likewise in 2001 …. Another study found that aggressive recession advertisers
* Increased market share 2 ½ times the average for all businesses in the post-recession

In 2002 …. The Strategic planning institute illustrated that during economic expansion

* Although 80% of businesses increased their advertising spend there was NO improvement in market share

* Why? – Because everyone has increase ad spending!

ONLINE MARKETERS:

Many sites have experienced a few sales decline and are trying to cut short their budgets and focusing on some other areas too, but as the time passing it’s now just a reason that many companies are giving for the firing their employees and cost cutting.

Survive Online Recession with Internet Marketing Techniques

Recession has over-shadowed all business worldwide making it difficult for companies to survive and earn profits. World Wide Web is also experiencing the pinch of this global financial mess.

Tips to survive:

 Blogging                          PPC marketing            Social networking

1.Convert your analysis according to customer insights.

2.Convert your insight into some real action.

3.Repeat the above steps as and when required.

Other strategies that you can follow in this situation:-

              Focus on recent customers                      Rewards

            “Fire” your banner                                    Conversions

Return on Investment                              Remember the basics

    Integration

Recession will impact search marketing

We can see some of the leading Internet search stocks taking a hit in the recent past. Google down 38%, Yahoo lay off 10 – 20% of its staff.

INDIAN SITUATION:

The official estimates of GDP growth for the first two quarters of 2008/9 stayed above 7.5 percent. However, industry-wide indications after September are uniformly gloomy.

There are reports of significant declines in output of automobiles, commercial vehicles, steel, textiles, petrochemicals, construction, real estate, finance, retail activity and many other sectors. Exports fell by 12 percent in dollar terms in October and advance information points to a similar decline in November. After September, the economy seems almost to have gone over a cliff.

In January 2008, oil prices surpassed $100 a barrel for the first time, the first of many price milestones to be passed in the course of the year. In July 2008, oil peaked at $147.30 a barrel and a gallon of gasoline  was more than $4 across most of the U.S.A. These high prices caused a dramatic drop in demand and prices fell below $35 a barrel at the end of 2008. There is concern that if the economy was to improve, oil prices might return to pre-recession levels.

In the second half of 2008, the prices of most commodities fell dramatically on expectations of diminished demand in a world recession.

RELATIONSHIP IN CRISIS

Consumers feel somehow abandoned by big brands. In a way they feel brands are indifferent to their situation and don’t do anything for them. Comparing the period of Jan/Nov 99 with Jan/Nov 98, prices in supermarkets went down by an average of 5%.            During the recession all supermarkets, despite their positioning, base their communication on price and, compared to FMCG categories, increase their ad spending.

RELATIONSHIP THERAPY

ü   Acknowledge the problem

ü   Respond sensibly

  1) Communicate performance to justify price

  2) Communicate special discount as opportunity and

  3) Communicate price reduction to reinforce brand proposition.

Steps a marketer should take in times of recession

Time to introspect                         Invest in brands

            Be a paranoid                                Cut Costs

Partner your stakeholders             Trade Up or down

            Listen to your customers

5 Tips to Recession-Proof Global Marketing

Offer something that will provoke a heartfelt                     Keep in touch.

“It’s about time!”                                                                  Great sportsmanship pays off

Make yourself available.                                                      Dare to be different.

CONCLUSION:

Thus the depression calls for marketing managers to use strategies to stimulate consumer demand. Such strategies often require a redefinition of the target customers and the marketing mix. They may include narrowing the product line, offering cheaper products and quantity discounts, lowering prices, increasing promotion, and offering products directly to consumers.

Review of SunSplash Tanning and D Lite (No Tan) Systems

If you are like me, a deep tan is quite appealing. However, the sun exposure that is required to achieve that beautiful tan is far from appealing. I will add to that by saying that some exposure to the sun is important to ensure that your body receives the right amount of Vitamin D, and that your Melatonin levels fluctuate appropriately. Apart from spurts of sun exposure, it is not safe for your skin to receive much more than this. If it does, you will face the complication of burning, and even serious problems like skin cancer. Here, I will review a product that I used to achieve a natural looking tan by not having to expose myself to dangerous levels of sun exposure – SunSplash Tanning and D Lite (No Tan) Systems.

It all started when a friend of mine visited a local tanning salon. The results that she achieved were remarkable. Her reasoning for pursuing this method of tanning was that she was too busy to spend hours in the sun in order to get the tan that she had wanted for so many years. She then suggested to me that I participate in tanning bed exposure to achieve the tan I had always dreamed of. You see, I work from home and I educate both of my active boys from home. My husband also worked from home, but we would often find ourselves scraping the barrel for enough time to do all of the things that we had to do on a day to day basis – much less time to visit a tanning salon.

My husband and I worked it out and he stated that he would take care of things if this is what I wanted to do, but to be careful. I was so excited! That is until I took the time to research tanning beds. I quickly learned that this form of tanning provides no health benefits, and over time, it can actually damage your organs and other internal components of the body! Needless to say, I quickly changed my mind on this little experiment and never made it to the tanning salon. My interest was peaked, however, and I decided that I should take the time to determine if there were any other types of safe alternatives to tanning beds. This is when I ran across a website that sold the SunSplash Tanning and D Lite (No Tan) Systems.

Now, with this tanning method, I discovered that it produces nearly the same amount of sunlight that the actual sun produces, which meant that it also helped the body receive a sufficient amount of Vitamin D. Melatonin levels could also be regulated by using this tanning system which includes approximately eight different lights. So, basically, this was much safer than standard tanning beds in that it uses reflective lighting technology to deliver the rays that help tan the skin and provide nutrients to the body! I could not believe it.

Now, after just a couple of months of using the SunSplash Tanning and D Lite (No Tan) Systems, I sport a luxurious tan. In addition to this, I look and feel better all the way around. I highly recommend this system to anyone who desires the same!
